[영문초록(Abstract)]
This paper investigated the church architecture culture of the Korean Protestant church being Christian culture to supply space environment enough to do various activities of the church being community of Jesus Christ and to express identity of Jesus Christ and to make images of gospels as well as Christian culture of Jesus Christ that the church community wanted to give and to produce cultural tools.
The church architecture of the Korean Protestant church seemed to make change regardless of regions and denomination. In the 1980s, the Korean church architecture followed Gothic architecture as it was, or it made change of Gothic architecture. In the latter half of 1980s, the Korean church architecture was free from Gothic architecture, or had naturalism colors, or imitated the architecture of Catholic church, or tried to produce various kinds of planes, or was much interested in more structural features, or connected the Korean traditional style with church architecture.
After the 1988 Summer Olympic Game in Seoul, the Korean church architecture made efforts to do in various ways. The values of symbolic factors that Protestant churches as well as Catholic churches had were reexamined, and long-established custom of the church architecture was destroyed, and environment-friendly church architecture, church architecture joining in community society, and the church architecture of the Korean Protestant church satisfying new cultural demand, etc were expressed in various ways. In other words, the church architecture of the Korean Protestant church was free from dark and heavy atmosphere as well as religious ceremonies to construct the architecture that all of community could join to be focused on church service.
This study examined the church architecture of the Korean Protestant church of cultural production that could accommodate Christian's life in the churches to express forms and space, and it suggested future directions of the church architecture of the Korean Protestant church.
